McCumber may be considered an evil genius—a
brilliant designer who built an extremely playable
course from the middle tees. But I repeat, from
the middle tees. Because from the back tees, you'll
quickly appreciate his Dr. Frankenstein bent. It's,
shall we say, a tad more challenging? And that's
one of the reasons why The Trails of Timberton has
hosted national events such as the PGA TOUR School.
As well as major regional events such as the State
Amateur, the State Open and the State Four Ball
Championships. In fact, this Magnolia Golf Trail
4 1/2-star course was voted Mississippi's top-rated
public/semi-private golf course by Golf Digest
in 1998. More recently, Golfweek rated it
#3 in the state for 2002.
